Okay, maybe the title is a bit dramatic, but a thoughtful thank you gift certainly has the potential to make the recipient’s world a better place. Read on. I’ll prove my case.
The gift I created could serve a number of purposes: birthday, Christmas, bridal shower, housewarming, even Groundhog Day. It’s not bound to any specific occasion. However, I crafted this gift as a gesture of gratitude. I wanted to say, “Thank you for welcoming me as your houseguest.”
“Silent gratitude isn’t much use to anyone.”

“Thank you for welcoming me into your home. For providing a comfortable bed, a warm shower, and a wi-fi password. I am grateful for the cotton swabs in the bathroom and a reading lamp next to the bed. For all these things and more, I offer my sincere appreciation.”
“I hesitate to mention that your ice-maker is empty because my husband jammed the dispenser while trying to put some ice in our water bottles for the day. He fiddled with the thing long enough that eventually he emptied the ice bin. This is also the reason your roll of paper towels looks a bit skimpy, as there was a bit of clean-up. He got ice everywhere. So, I would also like to thank you for the ice. All of the ice.”
How to Thank the Ultimate Hostess
Our hostess keeps a room ready at all times, as she has family who live out of town. You would think she had read my post about how to prepare for houseguests, because this place served as the ideal model for how to make guests feel at home.
I wanted to do more than say “thanks.” I chose to make her a gift. A thoughtful thank you gift. One that would make the world a better place. Considering her décor and the fact that she regularly hosts guests, I decided to make a customized soap dispenser and a tray for jewelry and watches. I thought these items would be useful, as well as beautiful. As I like to say, they are decorative and functional.
I purchased the tray and the clear soap dispenser. I designed the phrases in Cricut Design Space and cut them from metallic copper vinyl.
The trinket tray was adorned with “Rings and Sparkly Things.” I imagined guests using the dish to hold watches, rings, bracelets, and earrings while they showered or slept.
For the soap dispenser, I adhered vinyl to read “Today I Choose Joy.” I thought guests could enjoy an uplifting message each time they washed their hands. They could clean their hands and mind at the same time.
Finally, I protected the surfaces with Polycrylic. See what I mean? Decorative and functional. My thoughtful thank you gift has the potential to make our host’s world a better place.
I designed a gift tag to keep with the handmade feel. Actually, I had so much fun creating the tag that I ended up with an entire collection of gift tags for a variety of occasions.
The tags are png formatted, so you can print them on your favorite card stock or simply upload them into Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio and let the machine do the cutting for you.
“Every day, be sure to tell somebody thank you.”

I would love to see how you use the tags!
